ENGLISH
The emergency of parking and traffic is becoming the real priority of Cefalù. If a serious and structural solution is not found, the city risks remaining a prisoner of cars, losing livability, beauty, and tourist quality.
Every summer we witness the same scenes: long queues, drivers desperately searching for a spot, residents in difficulty, too narrow or occupied sidewalks, and entire streets turned into permanent parking.
In 2026, we will continue to intervene with temporary changes to parking, new ordinances, and different ZTL hours. These measures are necessary to address emergencies, but they cannot replace a real plan for the future.
This year, I would also avoid sending a delegation to the BIT in Milan to promote Cefalù. Before further promoting our destination, we must learn to offer a true welcome, because welcoming cannot be improvised.
It is useless to continuously increase the number of parking spaces, hospitality facilities, and commercial activities if, during peak hours, the only visible results are traffic, disputes, and poor services. Promotion must proceed alongside planning: first, the city must be organized, then presented to the world.
Cefalù needs a new Urban Traffic Plan, intercity parking at the city’s entrances, frequent electric shuttles, efficient connections to the center, and a digital system that indicates in real-time available parking spaces.
On some streets, single-use parking may be introduced, eliminating parking and freeing up space for wide sidewalks, accessible by trolley and safe cycling paths, as shown in this image.
This is not about declaring war on cars or eliminating parking without offering alternatives. It is about preventing cars from occupying every available square meter and paralyzing the city.
If we do not design a different mobility today, tomorrow every new visitor will be perceived as a problem rather than a resource.
Cefalù must choose: continue to promote itself without being ready, or finally build a more accessible, orderly, welcoming, and livable city for residents and visitors.
Image note: the proposed images are purely representative and do not constitute technical or definitive projects. They are meant to stimulate imagination and promote constructive discussion on the possible transformations of the city.
ITALIANO
